Many moons ago (actually it was more like Friday) my awesome friend Sarah sent me a link and told me it was a must see, and she was right! It was a tutorial on how to recycle an old sweater and an old pair of flats into sweater boots! UH-MAZE-ING! I knew I immediately must try this, even though it's been years since I've touched a sewing machine. And boy did this project remind me of my inexperience on multiple occasions.
After having major thread issues, having untangle some parts and forgetting how they went back together into the machine, and overusing the phrase "MOMMMMMMMM I NEED HELP AGAIN!!!", I had to take a break. So the next day I went back into full swing and finished my new comfy sweater boots. To be honest, I now that I've done it, I want to do it a second time because I know it would turn out better. But for a first timer who had to dust off her sewing machine, it turned out pretty good. Also, the instructions say to use a thick sweater, but I like all of my thick sweaters so I was decided to cut up an old thin sweater and used a second layer of sleeves from an old hoodie. I will say it would have been a lot easier if I only had one layer to work with. I think I'm going to go investigate a thrift shop for a thick sweater for a second pair.

Thank you Sarah for this awesome project! Also browse around on  Instructables because there is some pretty creative ideas on there. Great things to occupy your time on a rainy day!

The above image shows three Christmas gifts I received from my two besties. I adore how they both know what I love. Photography, my pet iguana Harry Houdini, and elephants are my favorite animal. :) I know that the ring and necklace are from Charming Charlie, but I'm not sure where the earrings were purchased. If I find out, I will edit this post to let you know!
Here is a gallery of some non-jewelry faves. First is Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast. Now the pic is of what I just created on my own, but here is a similar recipe I found. Next is two of my favorite games to occupy my time, solitaire and Words with Friends. I do have an app to play solitaire on my phone/tablet, but I prefer to play card games with actual cards unless I can't, then I turn to the apps. I just prefer to shuffle the cards myself and actually have something to do besides tapping a screen. I guess I'm like those people who prefer to read actual books instead of using a Kindle. lol. And don't even get me started on Words with Friends. This game is truly addicting and also makes you get frustrated. Which is the classic duo of traits made famous by Angry Birds, where the one who is the angriest is the person playing. (why even have the red birds now that you have all these types who kick some pig butt. and why don't we get rewarded with bacon after killing the evil pigs???) Anyways, Words is another way to feel less guilty about spending time with your face glued to your electronic devices because it's somewhat educational.
And last but certainly not least, Roach the caterpillar. We had one of our trash bins fall over the other night. So I was picking up the mess and tossed the pizza box to the pile-o-trash and on the underside was this little bright green caterpillar. I was surprised to see him because we have had about 3 different snow falls, and this was shortly after the worst of them. I didn't think he was alive, but when I touched him, he moved. I decided to grab my brother's old bug holder and rescue him from his certain death this winter. You know how they say that when the world ends the only thing that will survive are roaches? So Roach it is then! He has been with us for about a week now and is thriving! He eats and crawls all over the place. He also has redecorated his place a little, making sure every thing is feng shui.
So there you have it, some of my favorite things right now. Let me know what some of your current favorite things are. I'd love to see what's trending right now in real life and not on Twitter. :) Have a great Monday everyone!

Zooey Deschanel is one of america's sweethearts, and a huge fashion inspiration to a lot of girls in my generation. Her style is quirky, feminine and conservative. She demonstrates how to use simple solid colors while throwing in the occasional eye-popping pattern. And as shown below, tights are a must. Whether you use a color or stick with simple black, it acts as a blank canvas for the rest of your outfit to assemble on top of. Zooey is a great example of how to be cute and flirty, without be sleazy.
If you aren't familiar with Ms. Deschanel, I highly recommend you tune in to watch her show New Girl on Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX. Also, check out the website she co-founded called HelloGiggles. It truly is "the ultimate entertainment destination for smart, independent and creative females." [site:about]

suede bow ring
As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I've recently discovered a personal trend-o-mine. Bows. It started with a ring I made myself about two weeks ago. I was cleaning and discovered some leftover black suede leather cord from a past project. So I cut a piece and wrapped it around my finger and tied a knot to measure the fit. Then just tied the rest into a bow, then super glued the bottom of the knot to make sure it would stay tied. And I've worn it every day since.

blush satchel by xhilaration
Then I was killing time in Target the other day and of course I had to swing by the purse section. They had an endcap of sequins handbags that caught my eye. One in particular was this Blush Satchel by Xhilaration. It was love at first sight. You know, the kind where once you see it, you automatically start taking things out of your cart that you "don't absolutely need" in order to get it. Not only is it a cute color, and one side is completely covered in sequins, but it has ribbon tied into a bow on the one handle. It's adorable, and not only catches attention, but pulls together practically any outfit. I can wear jeans, a sweatshirt, and boots with my hair pulled back and once I grab my purse, I instantly feel uber girly. lol

bow earrings
And last, but most certainly not least, my metal bow earrings. Now I am disappointed to say that I do not remember where I got these at. But here is a pair of equally cute bow earrings I found at Claire's. Iv'e had these earrings for about a year I'd say, and rediscovered them when I was getting ready to go out last night. So once again, bows are everywhere in my life right now, and I wouldn't have it any other way. They
are simple and add an instant touch of femininity
to anything.

Do you have any cute bow items, let me know and send pics! I'd love to see if I'm not the only one rocking bows this time of year. Well, besides all the Christmas presents that is.
